Day-to-Night outfit | Summer Edition

Since my summer outfit alone was not that interesting, I decided to do a day-to-night outfit post. The evenings in summer are mostly still pretty warm and there is no need to put on a thick coat but I still find that it cools down enough in order to wear something extra. Also when going to a party at night, everyone wants to dress up a bit more and probably wear something different than during the day which is why I looked for simple changes to my outfit in order to make it ready for a night out.

For my outfit to wear during the day, I went for a simple striped bodysuit from Asos and I paired it with these adorable shorts which are also from Asos. I had these shorts in my 'saved items' for about two months until they finally were back in stock in my size! The shorts are in this light creamy colour which I find ideal for the summer time as almost every top I have gives the shorts another look and makes it a completely different outfit. I love the bow at the top of the shorts, I think it adds a lot more detail to it and I don't know if I would like them so much without it. (I have to admit that my 'creating a bow' skills are not at its best and I will have to work on that, my apologies.)
For shoes, I had to wear my new Kurt Geiger sandals which I absolutely love! I think sandals and a bikini are the two hardest items for the summer time to choose as there is too much choice but I think I managed both parts. These sandals are in a tan colour with beautiful gold detailing. The gold detailing is maybe a bit difficult to see in the picture but I posted the sandals on my Instagram too which is 'xmarlindeee'

To change it up a little bit for the night time, I threw on my black blazer from Forever 21. This is a very casual blazer and it feels comfortable because of the soft material, it is not like the 'standard' blazers which is why I love wearing this one. It is also a bit longer and I thought that went really well with this outfit! To stay with the black details, I chose to wear my high black heels from New Look and at first I was not sure how it would look with shorts but I really like the way it turned out. The change from flats to heels is maybe a big step but just remember the quote from Monte Carlo 'if they ain't hurting, they ain't helping'. I love the the change from casual to party ready with just a few simple changes and I will be wearing these two outfits a lot this summer!

One year in England

Sooooo... one year already! Time flies when you are having fun they say.
I must say, I did not expect it to go this quick and it certainly wasn't as horrible as I thought it would be. I have actually learned a lot, about change, friends, family and most of all about myself.
Of course there are always people around you to support you in whatever you are going through and whatever you are doing or planning but the one person that actually has to do it is you, or in this case, me.

When I arrived here a year ago, I had no clue about what it was like to start all over somewhere new and to be honest, I was excited and scared at the same time. That's because I did not know how it was going to be; I did not know anyone at my school, I had no friends here, no work and I did not want to join a new dance team as I loved the one I danced in before. I have always been a very positive person and I could always see the bright side of situations but even I could not really turn off the negative thoughts I had about this change in the beginning. This was mostly during the summer holidays when I had to say goodbye to all the people I was going to miss so much. I know this sounds like I was never going to see them again and I know that I did not move all the way to Australia but still, stopping by for an hour to see someone, cycling to school with your best friend everyday, is all a bit difficult to do when living in another country.

When school started it September, that was when it really all began. No more hiding in my room, this was the time to finally face the truth of a completely new environment. Luckily, the school was not so bad at all, everyone was really helpful and understandable and I made friends in the first week already. I still could not fully concentrate on school at that time as I still could not really believe that I actually lived in England. It felt so unreal and all I could think about was how I could have my normal life back again.

I have posted a couple of months ago about school and the differences between England and the Netherlands so I won't do that again but here is the link if you want to have a look: 'Life in England so far'

Every time it was close to a holiday I got so excited, I could finally see everyone again! Although it is hard to visit everyone in a week or two and it will always be difficult to please everyone, I think I did alright and I hope I did not disappoint anyone. However, I do think that keeping in contact with friends and family should come from both sides and in a situation like this it is only a matter of time before you find out who your real friends are. Which, I am actually so grateful for because there is nothing worse than people who turn out to be not your friend after all.

As time passed by, I learned that I was the only one who could change the way I felt about the situation and I tried to take a different view. This was not always easy and there were times when I could not seem to accept the changes. I just did not know what to do about it. There are always choices and options to choose from in your life but at that point I could not see them at all, I could not go back to the Netherlands, I did not want to live here, I did not know what I wanted to do after high school and where I needed to be, but now, I think I managed to figure everything out because I do not feel that way anymore.

I am so happy where I am right know and despite all the negative thoughts I had, this change of moving countries has been good for me. First of all, my English has improved a lot which is really helpful for any future careers and also for writing this blog of course! In addition, I have taken on a different view on school and university and I am working really hard for where I want to be. My grades are better than they have ever been in the Netherlands. I push myself to work hard and stick to deadlines which I always had trouble with before. I am constantly looking at universities and what will be the best option for me. I work hard at my job and I manage to work a lot of hours per week and still do the best I can at school.

After this summer I have just one more year of high school left (although it feels like it's never-ending) and after that I hope to go to university where I want to study fashion (not designing but the business side of fashion). I want to keep improving my blog and write better posts. I will start saving up for a DSLR camera to make pictures with high quality. There are so much more things I want to do but this post is long enough already.

If you made it all the way to this paragraph, thank you and I hope you are not bored of all my rambling yet because I have just a few more words to say.
I think it is really important for everyone to step out of your comfort zone because you will learn so much about yourself. I have always been a girl with big dreams and goals for life but it is just so easy to stay where you are and not change anything in your life because it is easier. I loved my life the way it was, living in a small town where I knew literally every small corner, but taking on a challenge is so worth it. There is a whole world out there waiting for you so don't just follow the easy pathway but take on new challenges, go on an adventure, just simply follow those crazy dreams and discover a whole new you. Get rid of any people in your life trying to stop you from being the best you can, you do not need that negativity in your life, surround yourself with positive people who you know are always going to be there for you and also, be that person for others.

Finally, I just wanted to say that I am so thankful for everyone who supports me and stands by my side, it means a lot to me.

Lancôme Grandiôse Eyeliner

Finally I purchased an eyeliner that I am genuinely happy and satisfied with! I recently bought the new Lancôme Grandiôse eyeliner which has just come out. The Grandiôse mascara was already a success and now they have added the eyeliner to the range. I am in love with the concept of this liner which is basically a top that can bend to the side as you can see in the picture. It is not a flexible top but it clicks to the side so it does not move when applying. It is so easy to get into the inner corner of the eye! I am definitely not the best when it comes to creating the perfect winged eyeliner but I have seen so much improvement these last days since I used this! The tip of the applicator is really thin which I absolutely love because it is so precise and you can decide whether to go for a settle or bold look!
I do recommend to shake before use because I did not do this and I freaked out when I used it the second time and the tip was all dried out. (but I think that is just me)
This eyeliner is a little bit on the pricy side as it is £23,00. However, the quality is really amazing and if you use eyeliner everyday I think it is worth investing in a good one. Also, the packaging is just gorgeous. The little black rose inside the applicator and the whole glass to black ombre effect is beautiful.
I do not know how long this eyeliner lasts as it also depends on how often and how much product you use. I now use this Lancôme Grandiôse Eyeliner every single day but I am hoping it will still last a long time! If not then I will replace it immediately I think.
My eyeliner will never be as precise and sharp as Adele's but I think I am getting closer now!
Let me know what is your must-have eyeliner and if you have tried this one yet!

Blue buttoned skirt | Summer outfit without summer

These photos were taken on one of the few sunny days here in the UK and I have not worn this outfit ever since but because it is the beginning of July now, I have got my hopes up high for some summer weather!

Let's start with the light blue skirt from Forever 21. This is from Forever 21's 'contemporary' range and it was a bit more expensive than most of their products but the quality is also better than normal. I absolutely love these buttoned skirts and I would love to have a whole collection of different colours one day! I thought that this baby blue was perfect for summer. They also sold it in pink but because I always tend to go for pink when there is a choice, I decided to go for blue this time, just for a change. The length of the skirt is perfect because it is not too long and it is not too short either. I think skirts are allowed to be a bit short sometimes but it still has to be appropriate. The skirt is made of a sort suede material (definitely fake), it feels a lot stronger than most Forever 21 items. I have bought a lot of dresses from there in the past and they just seem to get shorter and shorter every time they come out of the washing machine. I think this skirt is a great piece in my wardrobe and maybe I will go back and buy the pink one as well. (and the black one, and the brown one...)

Moving onto the top that I am wearing, this is a cream coloured bodysuit from Boohoo. I had been looking for a bodysuit like this one for awhile now and I am so glad I finally found it! I love that it is really oversized and I think it creates a perfect combination with my skirt. I also love wearing this top with my high waisted black Joni jeans from Topshop.

For my shoes, I am just wearing my plain white all stars because I just think they go with literally every single outfit and I was not planning on wearing heels with this outfit. I bought mine from Tower London because they were a lot cheaper with my student discount. Just like the rest of my family, I am so surprised by how white these shoes still are even though they belong to the clumsiest girl in the world.

As you can read in my 'why statement necklaces are a must', I think a pretty necklace can really spice up any outfit which was exactly what it did with this one. The necklace I am wearing here is from Primark and it was only £4 but it just gives so much more detail to this outfit. I love how the colours go so well with the skirt. I recommend not spending too much money on statement necklaces as it is not an 'everyday item' and it is just good to  have different ones for different outfits.

I will definitely pack this outfit when I visit Italy this summer! SO excited!
