As you may have read in one of my previous posts about Nice, I said that me and my friend took the train one day and visited Monte Carlo. I can't not mention that Monte Carlo with Selena Gomez is still one of my favourite movies. Only because it makes me so happy watching it and reminds me to have big dreams and to go after them. (and not to forget the gorgeous Oscar de la Renta gowns) so ever since it has been a dream to visit this place.
- arriving at monaco train station -
Unfortunately for me, I wasn't mistaken for some famous rich socialite so we ended up taking the train by ourselves. This already started as lower expectations than the movie but I still had my hopes up to find a cute Australian guy. (FYI this also did not happen)
It is quite a long walk from the train station of Monaco to Monte Carlo, especially with all the hills and unsuitable walking shoes. However, the view is incredible and it is totally worth the sweaty armpits in the end! We stopped by a local supermarket to get some drinks and camembert flavoured crisps to keep us going.
Once we arrived in Monte Carlo, I recognised all the spots from the movie and desperately wanted to stay in the Grimaldi suite. I settled for an ice cream opposite the hotel instead where we spent half our holiday budget. (It is much like Venice when it comes to the food and drink prices around here)
Most of our time here was spent walking around to ensure that we had seen everything there is to see. To be honest, you don't need more than a day in Monte Carlo, it is quite small and it is easy to walk everywhere. Last year, I wanted to book a trip here for a few days but I am so glad I didn't. i would highly recommend staying in Nice and taking the train to Monte Carlo for 1 day.
(There is this cutest red little train driving around Monaco everywhere and I wanted to get on it so bad!)
- what to do the rest of the day -
In the 6 hours that we were here we had pretty much seen everything of Monte Carlo since it is a lot smaller than most people think (by most people I mean myself). We visited the Casino which is even more gorgeous inside than it is from the outside. I saw my dream stairs here and it reminded me soooo much of the movie - I have already added them to my Pinterest home inspiration board xo.
We went luxury (window) shopping and looked for potential future husbands in the Hermes store. (against, no luck) They have the best stores and if you are looking for a new designer handbag and don't like online shopping than either Monte Carlo or Milan is your next destination.
I would say we arrived around 12pm and took a train back at 6pm which was surprisingly enough time to see so much. It is so so beautiful and I could never get enough of the view. I would definitely come back in a few years again for a day or two. (two to see the other side of Monaco) If you have a bit more money to spend it would be nice to go for dinner or a late lunch but my massive ice cream was filling enough until we got back!
Have you ever visited Monte Carlo or has it been on your bucket list for ages? I can finally tick it off mine!
Love, M x
